The Placement Project

Last year, 3,400 jobs disappeared in Portland. They were there at the beginning of 2008, and by the end of the year, they had vanished like magic. Warped, sick magic—because now the people who held those jobs are competing with you.
Who are you? You've just (or are about to) received your bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, graphic design or something similar. Maybe you've had an internship or two (or three). When you were heading off to college, the economy was good. You were told that with your degree (and maybe an internship), you'd be able to land a good job with a paycheck you could live off of.
The reality? Your degree is now a check mark on your resume. It's the prerequisite to be able to apply for the job, but it doesn't help you get it. And that job? It wants you to have actual work experience and a portfolio to prove it. The HR screener Googles you to see whether what you say about yourself matches with what you (and the people who know you) are saying about you online.
The Placement Project feels your pain and is here to help.
Brought to you by Forward ’09, The Placement Project was created by the Oregon Chapter of the American Marketing Association (whose members will probably be your future employers) to teach you what was missing from your undergraduate education: how to actually land a job. We'll teach you how to brand yourself, so you can stand out in that crowded stack of resumes and emails, and we'll teach you what hiring managers really want.
We're here, and we're going to give you the tools you need to have a fighting chance in today's job market. So what are you waiting for? Register. Right now.

“As a budding marketer and student, there are few ways that are better for me to get out there and learn beyond the classroom. With over 90 attendees at luncheons, and more at special events, including the Annual Conference, there is no place that marketing students in Portland can go to have a better opportunity to learn from, mingle with, and connect to professionals. AMA PDX is a wonderful organization to be associated with, and psu:ama is honored to work with them.”
